Art Appreciation (unit of work)
My unit of work in relation to Art Appreciation, consists of two lesson plans exploring and discovering the work of Ron Mueck. It is aimed at students in level 4 (Grades 5/6).
Lesson 1
The first lesson focuses on introducing Ron Mueck and the sculptures he creates. Children will get the chance to find out information on Mueck and be introduced to a few of his works. Students will firstly watch a video while filling out a corresponding question sheet. Students will then work in a group to produce a poster of Mind map to show their understanding of Mueck and his works. Finally, there will be a focus on a specific sculpture called "In Bed," whereby the children can individually reflect and respond on the artwork and relate it to their own individual lives.

Lesson 2
In the second lesson, Students will discuss Ron Muecks art works using appropriate language to describe the content, structure and expressive qualities of Ron Muecks works. Students will interpret and compare key features or Mueck's works and identify and discuss the purpose as to why they think the works have been created in the way that they have.
Children will be able to explore different artworks and find the sculpture of “Two women” by Ron Mueck in the National Gallery of Victoria.
They will be able to describe the qualities of Ron Muecks works in terms of the structure, materials used and its expressive qualities. Children will also be able to form their own interpretation of why Ron Mueck has produced the works he has, and how individually, they interpret the specific “Two women” Sculpture.
