Ron Mueck Exhibition 2010
Back in March 2010, I went along to the Ron Mueck excibition. I had heard a little bit about him but was determined to go along to see what all the fuss was really about.
I went along with my art crazy sister and bestfriend who were also both to see the works of Mueck. From the moment I stepped into the exhibition i could not believe how big some of the sculptures were and for some, how small.
The attention to detail on all of the pieces on display were absolutely mesmerizing. I stood their taking each sculpture in for what seemed like hours. I was amazed at how Mueck was able to create such a real human-like sculpture and capture all of its finer details, down to hair follicles, skin folds, pores, saliva and so much more.
I was interested to find out why Mueck was making these real life interpreted sculptures but why they were not made to scale of whats seen to be a 'normal human-being' size and shape. After some research Mueck stated, "I never made life-size figures because it never seemed to be interesting. We meet life-size people every day." (Mueck). This made sense to me as it enabled me to take notice of each of the sculptures in a way that a normally wouldnt.
